Outdoor Gateways gives New Mexico youth who might not otherwise be able to afford outdoor adventures the opportunity to experience rock climbing and snowshoeing while building confidence, friendships, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
About Outdoor Gateways
Outdoor Gateways is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Taos, New Mexico. We believe access to the outdoors through rock climbing and snowshoeing, and the career pathways that can grow from those experiences, should be a right for every young person in the state, not a privilege.
Outdoor Gateways began with Taos Pueblo and has expanded through schools, alternative programs, and youth organizations across the region. Every program is designed in partnership with the community we serve, creating opportunities for youth to experience New Mexico's landscapes in every season.
Whether climbing rock walls or exploring snow-covered trails on snowshoes, our goal is to help young people build confidence, resilience, leadership, and a lasting connection to the outdoors.

For many of the youth we work with, climbing on real rock or traveling through the mountains on snowshoes is something they never imagined they would do. These experiences challenge them to step outside their comfort zone, solve problems, trust themselves, and work as a team.
Every outing is led by experienced instructors who create a safe, supportive environment where each participant can learn at their own pace. Whether it's reaching the top of a climb or taking their first steps on snowshoes, every success helps build confidence that extends far beyond the outdoors.
Our goal is simple: to give young people opportunities that inspire them to believe in themselves, connect with nature, and discover new possibilities for their future.
